The Institute Assisting the Indigenous Amazon People provides powerful, meaningful assistance to the people of the region in three distinct ways.
We fund and facilitate medical transportation for people in need so they can easily get to the hospital for medical treatment. Our focus is on helping pregnant women and children who most need the care.
We teach conversational English to interested people in the region. This is a great way to broaden their horizons and make more positive connections, personally and professionally.
Last but not least, we are tireless advocates for the preservation of the Amazon Rainforest, a cause that is vital for the overall health of the planet.
Depending upon the exchange rate, $2.50 - $5.00 provides round trip bus transportation from the point where trails from communities on the Via Tarapaca reach the road to Leticia-Tabatinga. $15.00-18.00 provides round trip boat transportation from the communities along the river to Leticia-Tabatinga.
IATIAP is currently working to refurbish a boat donated by the river community of Macedonia. A 40 horsepower outboard motor is needed and funds for driver, fuel, and maintenance. A boat dedicated to transporting indigenous from their communities to Leticia-Tabatinga will allow for transport on days and times when boat service is unavailable and also decrease the likelihood of spreading viruses between passengers who may be ill.
IATIAP also seeks funds to purchase two vehicles to provide for transportation from points along the Via Tarapaca to Leticia-Tabatinga for indigenous who live in that area. Of course, drivers, fuel and maintenance are funding concerns as well.
